About

I want to teach to help children learn, grow, and be their best versions of themselves. I want to help them to be challenged, take risks, develop confidence in their abilities and discover their voices. I want to help my students become learners who can learn for themselves and by themselves and enjoy the experience.

I believe that it is important to create a classroom environment where all students feel safe, a sense of belonging, a sense that they have something valuable to contribute, and where students are engaged in active learning. I believe I will enjoy being a detective; continually trying to discover what motivates students to do their best and helping them to unlock their potential. I will focus my teaching and learning activities on the Common Core Standards and continue my own learning to improve my teaching practice.

I look forward to collaborating with colleagues. It's the combination of all these aspects of teaching that

I believe will keep teaching interesting and rewarding.

New Zealand

I student taught in the Hawkes Bay region of New Zealand October 2012 - December 2012. During my time there, I spent three weeks each working with a 5th grade classroom, a 3rd grade classroom, and a kindergarten classroom. Among the many differences I experienced, my favorite was the focus on outdoor education. I had the opportunity to spend two weeks with the students during their Education Outside of the Classroom (E.O.T.C. Week) and Travel Tourism Week studying various aspects of the outdoors, including a 22 km. bike ride, hiking, sailing and much more!

To prepare for my teaching experience in New Zealand, I completed a year long course which addressed various cultural and educational elements.
